The Treasurer of Ohio wanted to update a secure electronic
payment system which had been created for Ohio businesses
to make required tax payments online. The paper-based system
was cumbersome and led to many calls to the Treasury Department's
help line.
LimaCorp, LLC was challenged with creating an updated web-based
registration system which would update the Treasury's production
servers in real time, eliminating repetitive and error-prone
data entry. It was also important that the process be self-explanatory
and allow the users to easily find the answers to their questions.
By taking a user-centered approach, LimaCorp, LLC created
a solution based on a step-by-step process which integrated
supporting info at critical points. By re-organizing the information
and integrating new features such as sample forms and answers
to frequently asked questions, the user is guided through
the registration in a logical process. By breaking down the
information into steps, it has reduced unnecessary calls to
the help desk.
Also, by using customized interfaces, the data entered online
is updated on the Treasury production databases in real time.
The whole process requires virtually no human intervention
by the Treasury staff.

- Open-source middleware
The Treasury Department has eliminated the paper transaction
previously required and has seen a dramatic decrease in inquiries
regarding how to use the payment system. This has saved countless
hours of redundant data entry and phone support as well as
minimizing mistakes in the application process.
